Rules for Showing Rabbits

1. First you must have a Full Bred rabbit, with a reconized color to show. You will have to consult the ARBA book "Standard of Perfection" for acceptable colors for breeds. Each breed has different colors. Colors must match the eye color and nail colors that are allowed.

2. A rabbit under 6 months of age is to be entered as a Junior. One over six months should be entered as a Senior. The following breeds should be entered as 6/8 because they are between the ages of 6 and 8 months, and have a minimum ideal weight for seniors that is 9lbs. and over (Intermediate):

  • American
  • Giant Angora
  • Beveren
  • Californian
  • Champagne D'Argent
  • Checkered Giant
  • American Chinchilla
  • Giant Chinchilla
  • Cinnamon
  • Creme D'Argent
  • Flemish Giant
  • Hotot
  • English Lop
  • French Lop
  • New Zealand
  • Palomino
  • Satin
  • Silver Fox

  • 3. Every rabbit must have an ear tattoo in the left ear. It must be able to be read, or the judge may disqualify it.

    4. The rabbit must be free of disease and infection. If a rabbit is found at the show with an infection it will be removed.

    5. Toenails and fingernails should be clipped and well kept. Teeth should be free of malocclusion. A malocclusion is where the bottom teeth come up over the top and usually split and eventually break. Sometimes the top teeth just touch the bottom teeth. If a rabbit has this, the teeth can be clipped with toenail clippers easily, but the rabbit should not be shown. The rabbit's top teeth should come over the bottom.

    6. Be sure of the sex of your rabbit. If you enter a male in as a female it will be disqualified. A rabbit with signs of Vent Disease will also be disqualified. Males must have both testicles. (Yes I have seen rabbits with one get disqualified)

    7. All entrees and money must be postmarked by the date posted on the show catalog. If you do not have one, contact a seceratary to get you one, or just call your entrees in. All money must be recieved before the show starts, and any changes should be made before the judging starts. No changes will be allowed at the judge's table. If you can't make it to a show, and you need to cancle your entry, you must call in 24hrs before the show starts to cancle. If you try to cancle that morning you will still have to pay your entry fee even if you don't show. You won't be allowed to participate in anymore shows until that fee is paid. Some secerataries let this slide, but knowing the cost of my entrees, I won't even chance it!

That is about it. Check out the different types if disqualifications I have added to the site. These apply to all the breeds.
